During rounds 10 to 12, each TAC region is expected to play at least 11 players who are turning 16 or 17 and can play 24 footballers resulting in an 11–13 split between bottom-age and top-age players.
Rebels coach Gerard FitzGerald said the rounds were a good innovation that presented an exciting opportunity for the players.
“They were happy to get into the squad and playing in their first game, so there was genuine excitement and good support for those boys,” FitzGerald said.
“You’re providing opportunities for boys that can benefit, but at the same time knowing the opposition is doing the same thing.
“So you’re not putting the boys into an environment that could set them back, you’re putting them into an environment that is going to be great for their development.”
