The Bones Building, which is part of the Gallery, has been covered in scaffolding for weeks before the new, yellow colour scheme was revealed.
Ballarat City deputy mayor Mark Harris, who is also an art gallery board member, said the board welcomed the public’s comments on the building.
“It is the board’s decision, but it is the public’s decision as well,” he said.
“It is one of those classics where people may respond and say, ‘it is way too yellow, what were you thinking’.”
“You’d have to take that on the chin.”
Cr Harris said the new colour fitted in with the limited heritage palette available to it.
“To my own mind, I’d prefer the art gallery building to have that oxide look,” he said.
“But it is a separate entity that probably deserves its own paint job, in essence it is going to dissolve into people’s taste.”
