Ballarat Health Services medical oncologists Wasek Faisal and Vishal Boolell are urging people to go dry for a whole month in a sobering cause. Dry July fundraising injected $39,000 into the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre and its wellness programs last year. This included about $12,000 in direct sponsorship and pledges to BRICC.

Doctors Faisal and Boolell said the centre was an imperative part in holistic treatment, particularly in such a vulnerable time.
“We can be paternalistic in treating, diagnosis and drugs, but these programs can actively empower a patient and make them feel part of the decision-making,” Dr Faisal said.
