Ballarat youngsters lead way in road relays

Ballarat teens shone brightest in the Athletics Victoria XCR'17 Series road relays at Sandown.

Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre took out the boys' under-18, under-16 and under-14 divisions on Saturday.

Sam Williams, Andrew Amor and Nick Fidler combined impressively to edge out South Melbourne by eight seconds in the tightest of finishes in the under-18s.

Williams led out in nine minutes, 24 seconds and Amor followed in 9.38 and Fidler 9.45.

The under-16s had an equally tight tussle in beating Bendigo by 11 seconds.

Harry Sharp put Ballarat in contention in the opening leg and was partnered by Darcy Williams and Ben Ludbrook, who produced the second fastest run home.
