Sovereigns claimed a three-goal win, 54-51, over the Saints who entered the match just one game behind Sovereigns on the ladder.
The win sees Sovereigns a game clear in fourth position and while climbing any further seems unlikely, given it is three games behind third, a finals appearance is becoming increasingly likely.
Meanwhile, the championship team suffered a 64-46 loss.
Sovereigns were headed by nine goals at the first change and could never recover the deficit.
It sits second-last on the ladder, with three victories from 15 matches this season.
The 19/under outfit went down 50 goals to 37.
Sovereigns now have a short turn around as it prepares to face Peninsula Waves on Wednesday before returning for its second home game in Ballarat on July 30 against Geelong Cougars.
