Ballarat is the seventh biggest buyer of online fashion in the country and the ninth for beauty products, the new Australian Online Shopping report revealed.
Statewide Ballarat is second only to Point Cook for online fashion shopping. The Melbourne suburb was the second biggest online fashion buyer in the country after the Sydney suburb of Liverpool.
Online shopping for health and beauty products grew 25 per cent in Ballarat in 2016, 10 per cent above the national growth average.
“Ballarat continues to be one of Victoria’s strongest areas for online shopping,” Australia Post ecommerce and international general manager Ben Franzi said.
“The city is the second biggest buying location for fashion items in Victoria and the seventh in the country, with purchases growing at 17.7 per cent. This compares with the national average of 16.7 per cent.”
Commerce Ballarat chief executive Jodie Gillett said spending locally needn’t be done at bricks and mortar stores, but it was critical for jobs that money was spent locally.
“It is critical for our local businesses to offer excellent service, an experience to return for and of course to be online so that consumers can choose to shop when convenient. We shouldn’t think about shopping online as a negative as long as consumers think about where their dollars are landing.”
