The Ballarat International Foto Biennale is not just about the photos on the wall.
Artist talks will offer visitors an insight in to the thinking of photographers and how they frame their subjects with a range of topics from migrant experiences to war-torn countries and indigenous arts.
“When we’re talking about photojournalism we’re talking about a visual narrative, a real life story with strong political and social messages behind amazing imagery,” said BIFB director Fiona Sweet.
Lawyer, human rights and refugee advocate Julian Burnside will talk with international photographer Maziar Moradi, whose exhibition Ich Werde Deutch shows young people forced to leave their countries and start anew as immigrants.
And curator Aaron Bradbrook will discuss Rearranging Boundaries, an exhibition bringing together leading documentary photographers and visual artists from around the globe.
