The international test series between the neighbouring countries started on Friday, featuring both men and women in a special age group challenge.
The event precedes the Australian Masters Squash Championships’ individual competition and interstate teams series.
The Victorian Masters Squash Association is hosting the championships at the Wendouree-based Ballarat Squash and Racquetball Fitness Centre between September 4-15, with more than 400 participants to compete.
Victoria is set to be the best represented state, with 66 competitors on court contesting the individual championships and 74 in the interstate teams series.
The age category for the men and women’s competitions range from 35-89.
A second venue will be used in week two of the tournament at Ballarat Secondary College in Ballarat East.
The operation of a shuttle bus service will provide assistance with transport for competitors on a gold coin donation basis.
It is the first time the nation-wide masters event has been held outside of metropolitan Melbourne, with the announcement, which was made two years ago, a major sporting coup for the city.
Spectators are welcome to attend matches throughout the two weeks of competition and entry to the squash courts is free of charge.
Tourism is also set to benefit from an influx of visitors.
