The Two Swords have confirmed Josh Dilworth will play with the club during the Ballarat Cricket Association season, which kicks off this Saturday.
The all-rounder follows in the footsteps of overseas recruit Will Griffiths, who came out to Australia via the same cricket agent as the one used to recruit Dilworth.
Ballarat-Redan collected the wooden spoon last season and is looking to return to finals for the first time since 2009-10, when it was beaten in the grand final by Wendouree.
While it is unclear how Dilworth will measure up in the BCA, he has a good record with both bat and ball in England.
He has played all of his career with Liverpool and District Cricket Competition club Old Xaverians.
Two Swords captain Jayden Hayes hoped Dilworth could bat at the top of the order while offering a left-arm orthodox spin option.
“I'm not sure on the standard, but his stats are okay,” Hayes told The Courier.
“He comes at the end of October, but we have got two byes in the first month so I think he only misses one or two games tops.”
Hayes also revealed all-rounder Chris Egan had returned to the club and taken over the head coaching role.
Egan will be assisted in the job by experienced first grade players Brendan Thomson and Bobby Hind.
Ballarat-Redan starts its season with a one-day clash against North Ballarat on the hard wicket at Wendouree West on Saturday.
Darley and reigning premiers Wendouree will also do battle on Saturday afternoon, as will Napoleons-Sebastopol and East Ballarat.
