The last time the Roosters won their opening fixture was 2013 and as a side optimistic of rising up the ladder, a good start to the season was crucial.
The victory over a young Two Swords side was led by two new faces at North Ballarat.
Returning Rooster Ash McCafferty tore through the Ballarat-Redan batting line-up, taking 5-24, limiting it to 136. While Prabath Priyankara, who also bowled seven overs, raced to 53 off 36 balls to guide the Roosters to victory.
Captain Adam Eddy was pleased with the performance, even more so given its recent struggles with low totals. North Ballarat lost 3-0 after a 35-run opening stand, but consistent scoring ensured their would be no stumble at the finish line.
“We bowled really well, I was pretty happy with the batters...overall very happy,” Eddy said.
“The last couple of years, those sorts of games we’ve lost, so to finally get one on the board was good.
“Our last two years, our round one’s – we’ve been blown out of the water.”
While it was a key win for the Roosters, Eddy was not getting carried away.
“It’s only round one, it’s only one win, we’re not going to get too hyped up about it.”
