Police say the man, who was the only person travelling in the Red Holden Rodeo, hit the tree while driving down a service road on Sturt Street.
He was travelling west, crashing opposite Loreto College and rolling his car.
The crash occurred about 11.15pm, with all emergency crews in attendance.
Crews were initially called to the crash with reports of the man being trapped in the vehicle, however he was out of the car by the time they arrived.
There were reports of debris strewn across throughout the area.
Police say the man was taken to hospital for observations, but he escaped any serious injuries.
An ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the man in his 20s had grazes to his face and was in a stable condition.
Police will continue to investigate if drugs or alcohol were involved.
