Thousands of used books were on display at the bi-annual sale which has become one of the church organisation’s biggest fundraisers, with money raised going towards programs which don’t receive government support such as the BreezeWay Meals Program and Lifeline Ballarat.
UnitingCare volunteer Rod Devenish said unless a book was completely falling apart, “we don’t throw it away”.
“We find a lot people come in and buy books and they’re recycled a year later,” Mr Devenish said.
“We also have some very serious collectors who are looking for specific authors and are trying to complete a set.”
Mr Devenish said he hoped the stellar weather would help the Ballarat Show weekend sale profits to eclipse the $10,000 generated at the Labour Day weekend event earlier in the year.
