Wendouree train station contract set, work started

THE memory of driving from Ballarat's west into the city to catch a train will soon fade with work on Wendouree's new station moving ahead.State Transport Minister Lynne Kosky visited Ballarat yesterday to announce the completion of the latest step in getting the new station built, with a contract to build awarded and work started.Ms Kosky said Melbourne civil engineering firm Cut and Fill Pty Ltd would build the station, which would have air-conditioning and heating, a new platform, a 200-space carpark, bus and taxi bays and bike racks and lockers."The Brumby Government is taking action to improve regional public transport and these works are part of our commitment to providing Ballarat residents with modern, comfortable, reliable and convenient transport services," Ms Kosky said."The new station will provide new facilities and increased car parking which will help to cater for the enormous increase in the number of passengers using V/Line's Ballarat to Melbourne services."Work is also underway to build a new carpark in Doveton St and upgrade an existing carpark to fix congestion around Ballarat's central train station.
