Victorian Bushrangers have called up Matt Short for the Sheffield Shield clash with New South Wales at North Sydney on Friday.
Short earned selection in a 12-man squad after making 134 not out for a Cricket Australia XI in Townsville at the weekend.
He is one of four changes, with Victorian yet to have a win after three matches.
Victorian chairman of selectors Andrew Lynch said Short had been in a strong vein of form – putting himself in contention to make his first-class debut for the Bushrangers.
“He displayed consistency for us during the JLT One-Day Cup too, and showed he’s ready to step up into the first-class arena.”
As well as his century against England, the 22-year-old Short top scored with 51 in the first innings and took four wickets.
Short’s century was part of a 263-run fourth wicket partnership with Jason Sangha from New South Wales. Sangha made 133.
Aaron Finch has been named Victorian captain in the absence of Peter Handscomb, who is in Brisbane with the Ashes squad.
Spinner Jon Holland return after recovering from knee surgery before the JLT One-Day Cup in September and veteran Cameron White has been recalled.
