A 10-YEAR vision for tourism in the Daylesford region was unveiled this week. Tourism Victoria chief executive Gregory Hywood launched Destination Daylesford: Strategic Tourism Plan 2008-2018 at Peppers Springs Retreat & Spa in Hepburn Springs. The plan's vision is to position Daylesford, Hepburn Springs and surrounds as a renowned national and international spa, wellness and mineral water centre. It identifies three areas of priority:*improving industry structures and supporting policy advocacy;*improving the supply and quality of tourism experiences, and managing sustainable development; and*maximising destination marketing opportunities."The plan is about putting some structure and strategy around tourism across not only Daylesford, but the entire region," Destination Daylesford interim tourism board co-chair Frank Page said."The success we've experienced in Daylesford is undenied by anyone, but it has grown organically on the back of some of the region's key operators."Mr Page said a tourism board would also be introduced under the plan."There will be one organisation like an umbrella and it will pull together the different elements of the local tourism infrastructure," Mr Page said. The concept of Destination Daylesford was born in November 2006 courtesy of a $50,000 grant from the State Government. The steering committee met for the first time in May last year, while the draft plan was released earlier this year.It is an initiative of Tourism Victoria, Hepburn Shire Council, Hepburn Regional Tourism Association, and Daylesford & Macedon Ranges Tourism Inc, the local tourism industry, and the broader community.
