Remember Me is a story wall that will be building blocks in Hospice’s foyer in a new Lucas palliative care hub.
The evolving wall will represent changing, growing demands in palliative care across the region and will represent a way to honour a loved one, staff member or contribution.
Remember Me adds to the Give to Help Hospice Grow community fundraiser contributing to the purpose-built Hospice base in Lucas.
A state government grant, announced in September, delivered a one-off $6.2 million capital grant for the building. Hospice has been rallying to raise another $1 million to finalise land and allow for increasing future demand.
Palliative care demand in Ballarat has risen 18 per cent in the past year and 35 to 40 per cent of people who choose to die at home in Ballarat can access palliative care, compared to the state (27 per cent) and national (14 per cent) averages.
Ballarat’s hospice service also covers parts of the Hepburn, Moorabool and Golden Plains shires.
Remember Me is inspired by the history of fundraising work in Lucas where the Lucas Girls, from Lucas Clothing Factory, raised money to plan almost 4000 trees in Ballarat’s original Avenue of Honour. Hospice staff aim to capture the Lucas Girls’ passion and community spirit.
Hospice is also encouraging people and organisations across the community to consider raising money for Hospice work via Christmas parties this season.
