From December 1, Joyce and Malcolm Jeffrey’s Walker Street home has been decked out like few others.
And the people have given the property their tick of approval, voting the Jeffreys’ light display the best in Ballarat in Central Square Christmas lights competition.
Mrs Jeffrey said seeing the smiles on children’s faces was the driving force behind going to such effort to install thousands of lights and ornaments every year.
“We never had Christmas when I was a little girl, there wasn’t a Christmas tree or nothing,” Mrs Jeffrey said. “It looked alright (in the first year) but it wasn’t as big as it is now.”
While the competition for most extravagant house in Ballarat has escalated over the years, Mrs Jeffrey said it was important to “change things up” to stay at the top of the must-see list.
