Parks Victoria area chief ranger Siobhan Rogan said the junior rangers, aged from six to 12, often came along with their families to spend time in nature, make new friends and learn how to help keep the forest protected.
She said the program was designed to get children outdoors and active, and develop a greater appreciation of the environment, while providing an educational component.
“It just means when they’re out in parks they can look with the ranger eye to see the environment around them,” Ms Rogan said.
There are two activities based at Creswick Regional Park.
Minibeast Discovery takes place at St Georges Lake, where children explore the tiny critters hidden in the waters, peer into their world and learn what they mean to the ecosystem.
Bush Detectives takes place at La Gerche Gully, where young rangers learn how to become wildlife detectives and unravel the secrets of the bush, including learning to find traces and tracks left behind from animals.
Children are encouraged to bring along hats, sunscreen and water to stay hydrated.
Minibeast Discovery runs on January 11, 16, 18 and 23 from 10.30-11.30am.
While Bush Detectives runs on January 11, 14, 16, 18 and 23 from 3-4.30pm.
