The fire, located on the corner of Sand and Rosenows Roads, was called in at 4.56pm and less than a kilometre from Clarendon plantation.
Crews had the fire under control in 45 minutes and remained on scene, with an advice warning issued at 6.30pm urging residents to stay informed and monitor conditions, while there was no threat to communities.
A CFA media spokesperson said no injuries or damage to property had been reported, but was unable to give the cause or the size of the fire.
Units attending the scene included Ballarat, Bungaree, Buninyong, Elaine, Mt Warrenheip, Napoleons, Millbrook, Sebastopol and Hardies Hill fire brigades.
The fire comes after the announcement of a groundbreaking trial of aerial waterbombing at night, which is set to begin in Ballarat.
Emergency Management Victoria confirmed on Friday that test runs involving DELWP and CFA personnel would start in the city by mid-March.
Currently, Victoria’s firefighting air fleet must return to airports before nightfall.
Fire brigades will remain on alert this week as the temperature climbs to the mid 30s.
It will be a warm and dry start to the week with Monday expected to reach 29 degrees and Tuesday 31 degrees.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to reach a top of 34 degrees with northerly winds, while Friday is expected to reach 33 degrees.
