O’Loughlin will have an off-field role with the Bombers once his commitments with the Ballarat Football League are complete, after the AFL Victoria Country Championships clash in May.
The BFL is scheduled to take on the Goulburn Valley competition in an interleague game on the MCG.
This is O’Loughlin’s third campaign as the BFL’s senior coach.
Morgan said O’Loughlin, who played junior football at Buninyong and lives in the town, will run the bench on match days.
“It’s fantastic to have a bloke with so much coaching knowledge and experience involved at the club,” Morgan said.
“It’s also great to have a guy who played juniors at the club return.
“I am really looking forward to leaning on Shaun to further develop my coaching style and philosophies.”
O’Loughlin overseas the AFL Goldfields Junior Academy and spent time as an assistant coach of Melbourne’s AFLW team last season.
He shapes as a candidate to take over the top job at Buninyong, with Morgan having expressed a desire to step down from the role at the end of the 2018 campaign.
Buninyong opens its Central Highlands Football League season with a round one clash against Springbank on April 7.
