The nine year old started making and selling bracelets late last year as her grandmother battled cancer.
She sells the colourful accessories to family, friends and her classmates at Haddon Primary School.
As part of the super effort, Summer is also participating in Ballarat’s Relay for Life event at the end of the month, where she will dress as a superhero and walk around the athletics track throughout the day and night.
Close to the primary school pupil’s heart will be the memory of her grandmother, who died in January following the discovery of cancer in her lungs.
Lorraine Meade had participated in every Ballarat Relay for Life event since it started.
“She even came last year even though she was sick,” Summer’s mother Olivia Meade said.
“It’s something a lot of people go through, but it’s a horrible situation to be in for family and friends who have to support their loved ones.
“To find a cure would mean so much to so many people – not just for me, but for everybody else.”
It will be Summer’s first year participating in the event and she said she was excited to be on Team Superheroes with her mother, who she also credits for her jewellery-making skills.
“Summer knew she couldn’t do much for her grandma, but she wants to support those that go through it,” Ms Meade said.
“The school put a notice in the newsletter to say what she was doing (with the bracelets), so the kids were allowed to bring money and purchase them just before school started.”
Pupils can still buy the bracelets at Haddon Primary School, while those interested in making a donation can search for Summer Devine on Ballarat’s Relay for Life fundraising page.
Relay for Life takes place in Ballarat at Llanberris Reserve from Saturday, February 24, starting at 3.45pm until Sunday, February 25, finishing at 10am.
