The nine-year-old from the Ross Creek campus is one of 14 children across Australia who will see their designs applied to reusable bags sold at Coles.
Ten per cent of proceeds from her ‘fun, fruity explosion’ bag will go toward Guide Dogs Australia, to assist with the training of dogs and support for Australians living with blindness or low vision.
Woady Yallock Primary School’s Ross Creek campus will also receive $5,000 for an environmental or sustainability project. Assistant principal and campus head Eamon Johnson said will help to further the school’s environmental ethos.
“We currently have a chicken coop, and a garden which is composted by the kids’ lunch scraps,” he said.
“The project will have to be sustainable for the long-term, not just end after one or two years.”
The push for reusable bags comes as both Woolworths and Coles look to phase out plastic bags in the their supermarkets before July 1.
