This week’s meeting followed a gathering of football, netball and umpire league officials from around the state, which discussed a desire to remain operating independently in Bungaree last month.
Geelong and District Football League president Neville Whitley has spearheaded much of the discussion and was present at the meeting with AFL Victoria chief executive Steven Reaper and community football development manager Stephen O’Donohue.
“It was a forthright meeting that didn’t resolve a lot, but at least we are getting another hearing on the 19th of March,” he said.
“None of the leagues mind affiliating with the commissions... with some changes to the affiliation agreements. We don’t need the RAC to manage some of our football.
“We want to be self-sufficient and run our own leagues.”
Central Highlands Football League president Eddy Comelli is part of the sub-committee set up to continue working on the best way forward for Victorian competitions that want to kept their own administration.
Comelli said CHFL presidents would be briefed on the situation at a meeting on Wednesday night.
AFL Goldfields general manager Rod Ward said the current arrangement allowing the Central Highlands league to be affiliated, but not be administered by the RAC was still in place.
