AMY LEESON: Looking to add to her first 54-hole open title of last year.

Teenager Amy Leeson will attempt to defend her Ballarat District Golf 54-hole women’s open title this weekend.

She will tee up in the three-day event, which begins at Midlands on Saturday.

The tournament will go to Creswick on Sunday and Buninyong on Monday.

Leeson won last year’s title by three shots from Buninyong legend Helen Pascoe, who has won the event 10 times.

Leeson and Pascoe have been drawn to play in the same group in Saturday’s opening round.

Reigning men’s champion Sean Klain is not among entries, which are well down on past years.

The tournament has traditionally been played on a weekend near Australia Day, but this year was switched to the Labor Day long weekend for the first time.

With late entries still being accepted, Saturday’s opening round had 70 players in the draw.

The first players tee off at 7.24am on each of the three days
