Tina Cameron was driving her Ford station wagon along the Colac Road at Enfield on October 10 when police clocked her travelling at 134km/h in a 100km/h zone.

After police intercepted her, she underwent a preliminary breath test which came back negative.

The Rokewood mother was then given an oral fluid test,which revealed she had methamphetamine in her system.

Cameron told police she knew she was speeding, she knew her licence was suspended and she just wanted to get home.

She said she had not used any drugs for months.

Representing herself at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday, Cameron said she had six children aged between four and 14.

Magistrate Peter Reardon said Cameron was picked up for speeding in September and again in October. He told her she could have been involved in an accident.

Cameron was convicted and fined $1000, with $122.30 in court costs, and disqualified from driving for three months.

She pleaded guilty to three charges, including speeding, driving while suspended and drug-driving.

In a separate hearing, a man pleaded guilty to accompanying a learner driver while over the legal blood alcohol limit.

Shane Thompson was sitting in the passenger seat when the learner driver lost control of their vehicle and hit a tree in Scenic Drive, Newington, on June 25.

Thompson was trapped in the vehicle and was in and out of consciousness.

Once out of the vehicle, he was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital where a blood sample was taken, revealing an alcohol level of 0.181.

Thompson made full admissions to police, telling them he had been drinking scotch at a hotel in the Ballarat CBD.

The court was told Thompson understood the consequences of his offending and he was prepared to “cop it”.

Mr Reardon convicted and fined Thompson $300 and ordered to pay $81.10 in court costs. His licence was disqualified for 18 months.
