In what was the 50th running of the Ballarat Senior Basketball Tournament, the Rush proved too good for an Australian Defence Force team in the grand final.
In women’s C-grade, local team Wildcats faced off against the Bulls and had every reason to be confident of victory after an easy pool game.
And while there was just three points in the clash at the main break, Wildcats showed class in the second half and proved too strong.
The social women’s division included two masters sides and one of them – M&L Mads – made it through to the decider against Pink Ladies. However, the young legs prevailed with some great shooting at the end of the game.
Men’s B-grade had two new teams to the tournament playing off for the top prize, Mans Not Hot and Money in the Bank. The latter had a great carnival and won the grand final.
In men’s C-grade, there were two divisions. Winners were Jiblet and Kings White.
Scorpions had teams in both sections of the men’s social division and had mixed results, winning over Pink Lady Boys, but going down to Hawks.
At the top end of the men’s competition was the premier division.
This was a fiercely contested grade all weekend and the grand final was a worthy tussle between Keysborough Blue and Melbourne University.
In the end, it was the university outfit that took home the spoils.
