Two occupants, a 57-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were woken shortly after 2am by their dog scratching on a door and barking.
The pair, and their dog, were able to flee the home and were uninjured.
The house was all but destroyed in the fire.
Witness Pat Francis said he was driving past at the time.
“We were heading into town when we saw the flames, by the time we got there, there wasn’t much we could do,” Mr Francis said.
“We believe there was a couple living there and we understand that they got out and the dog out and saved a couple of cars.
“All we could really do was make sure everyone was alright.”
The CFA said the house was well alight when it arrived and it took them more than an hour to bring it under control.
Police say they are still looking into the cause of the fire, but at this stage it did not appear suspicious.
