Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute will turn its annual gala fundraiser into an anniversary celebration at The Boatshed in late May.
The first laboratory, named in honour of the teenage visionary, opened in a disused paint shed at St John of God Hospital Ballarat in 1998.
Gradually, as the research expanded, the small centre took over an old boiler room.
The homegrown, non-government funded institute captures international attention for cancer research across fields, including immunology.
For details to the event, which features a three-course dinner and live music, visit fecri.org.au.
