Emergency crews were called to Bluestone on Mair Street about 1.30am on Sunday following reports of a fight spilling over onto the street.
Police were told a dispute broke out between a number of parties before it escalated.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the investigation remains ongoing,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Melissa Seach said.
A witness said the fight started between two women before other men became involved and broke a glass guard rail.
They said at least three people were arrested.
Paramedics also attended the nightclub, treating a man in his 20s at the scene for minor injuries to his upper body.
It comes just months after a man was charged over a stabbing in the Ballarat nightclub precinct.
