YOUNGSTERS have been keenly watching workers move poles for new lighting towers at Western Oval into place this week.
City of Ballarat has confirmed works are on track for the lights to be installed on Monday – weather permitting – but the time for flicking the switch on would depend on any final adjustments needed.
The $50,000 state government project will highlight the redeveloped sporting precinct, completed last year, which feature $250,000 oval works, a new netball court and kitchen and canteen upgrades.
Redan Football Netball Club and Brown Hill Cricket Club are the main tenants of the oval.
The Lions and City of Ballarat have been lobbying for AFL compliant, female-friendly changerooms at the ground where Redan now largely bases its booming female football program.
Female changerooms were a key feature in the $2.5 million clubroom upgrades at CE Brown Reserve in Wendouree, which were complete last year and first of their kind for in the city.
