This Saturday afternoon Sewell will play his first game with the Cats since he left the club as a junior to join the North Ballarat Rebels.
He would eventually be drafted from the Rebels in 2003 and go on to play 200 AFL games for the Hawks, winning flags in 2008 and 2013. He won the club best and fairest in 2007.
Sewell was selected in the Newlyn senior side after training on Thursday night and has been named to start in the midfield alongside brothers Adam and Myles.
Adam and Myles signed back with the club during the off-season and played their first game for the year in last weekend’s narrow eight-point loss to Central Highlands Football League reigning premiers Hepburn.
Newlyn will host Waubra on Saturday, with the Roos heading into the clash on the back of a round one win over Learmonth.
After the game, Sewell will be joined by St Kilda great Danny Frawley for a function at the clubrooms that evening.
Saturday’s senior match is scheduled to start at 2.30pm.
