The woman immediately called triple-0 after seeing the blaze at her Edwards Street home, which backs onto Jones Drive, on Wednesday afternoon.
CFA crews arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to nearby houses.
Police later attended the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident, calling on anyone with information to come forward and deeming the fire as suspicious.
No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon.
It comes after Ballarat police revealed they had been called out to Jones Drive a whopping 280 times in the last year.
Earlier in the week, two car loads of men descended on the street before allegedly smashing windows and damaging cars.
A boy, 16, was arrested over that incident.
In January, a woman’s Jones Drive home was sprayed with gunfire in a shocking drive-by shooting.
A fence on Jones Drive had previously been spray painted with graffiti saying ‘Hell Street’ just metres away from where the shooting took place.
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s fire is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
