The Basketball Ballarat statistician has been working on the statistics bench at the Minerdome for South East Australian Basketball League games for the past 11 years.
He decided to submit his expression of interest in the Commonwealth Games last year and had a trial during a Melbourne United versus Chinese Taipei friendly.
Zakynthinos was one of five Victorian statisticians selected to work at the Games, with the role including calling, in-putting onto the computer and spotting for mistakes or clarification.
The Australian Boomers defeated Canada 87-47 to secure the gold medal with every player hitting the scoreboard. There were also Ballarat connections on the court with former Ballarat Miners Lucas Walker, 33, and Nathan Sobey, 27, both having an influence on the game, and former assistant coach Andrej Lemanis coaching the successful national team during its undefeated run.
