RACV withdraws from Energy Breakthrough

UPDATE 1.55pm: Changes to RACV’s sponsorship agreements for 2018 are behind the decision to pull out as sponsor of the Energy Breakthrough, the company’s general manager of public policy and corporate affairs says.

Bryce Prosser said the company would continue to work with Central Goldfields Shire and the Country Education Partnership over the next few months to assist with the transition.

RACV has been the naming rights sponsor for the event since 1992, the event’s second year.

“RACV is proud to have worked hard over the past 26 years to build Energy Breakthrough, and we believe it will continue to grow and be successful,” Mr Prosser said.

VicRoads will be a part-sponsor of this year’s event.

UPDATE 1.45pm: Central Goldfields Shire’s chief executive officer says the council has no concerns about attracting a new sponsor for the Energy Breakthrough, following RACV’s decision to withdraw.

Lucy Roffey said there had always been plenty of other organisations interested in the event, particularly given its calibre and the high level of recognition surrounding it.

As for this year’s event, Ms Roffey said RACV had contributed and all financial arrangements were already in place.

She said the company’s decision to pull out as sponsor had not come unexpectedly.

EARLIER: The RACV has announced its decision to withdraw as sponsor of the long-running school education challenge, the Energy Breakthrough.

In a statement, the Energy Breakthrough said Central Goldfields Shire Council and the Country Education Partnership remained committed to the program and it would continue this year and into the future.

The Energy Breakthrough, a science, technology, engineering and maths event, was established in 1991.

It is held in Maryborough and attracts thousands of primary and secondary school students.

The Bendigo Advertiser has contacted the Energy Breakthrough, RACV and Central Goldfields Shire for further information on the decision.

More to come.
