On paper it looks like an early opportunity for redemption for the Lions, but it will be an extremely different looking Redan outfit that takes to the court on Saturday to the one that lost to Sunbury by 14 goals in the preliminary final.
Redan coach Kate McMahon was expecting another tough challenge to start the season, adding to that was the round two match-up with 2017 runner-up North Ballarat City.
But McMahon said the new-look line-up gave her side an unknown factor which could work in its favour and anything was possible once the teams hit the court.
"That was a different team and that was a different year,” McMahon said.
"We're probably in different places to start the season.
"It is not lost on us that we are coming up against last year's premiers...they haven’t lost many of their players.
"You never say never, anything could happen in a game of netball. Write us off at your peril.”
Having lost a number of key players from last year’s line-up, Redan is still settling on what will be its best team and combinations across the court, which would be a matter of trial and error.
“We just need to continually build over these 18 weeks and I have no doubt that by the end of the season we’ll be going just fine.”
McMahon said she had great versatility at both ends of the court, with a number of players capable of filling roles at either end.
