Monk took out the Cycling Australia Road National Championships’ men’s under-23 road race at Buninyong in January, while Gigante completed the women’s under-19 criterium, time trial and road race triple crown in Ballarat.
Gigante is chasing back-to-back wins in the 59th edition of the Fred Icke, which has attracted almost 300 entries across nine categories.
Monk from the Melbourne University club goes to Creswick sixth in Victorian Road Series after three events and should be suited by the 138km course – three times around a 46.1km circuit taking in Kingston, Blampied, Smeaton and Allendale.
Raphael Freienstein (St Kilda) leads the VRS A grade men’s aggregate from Tour of Tasmania winner Lionel Mawditt (Carnegie Caulfield) and Liam Magennis (NSW)
Freienstein is the only one of the top three facing the starter at 12.30pm in the second wave of riders.
Gigante is second in the VRS A grade women’s aggregate, with leader Justine Barrow not riding.
The road begins at the corner of North Parade and Bridge Street, and ends in Bridge Street.
The first wave of riders leaves at 9am.
