Hundreds of cyclists took to the Ballarat Link Road to raise money and awareness for charity Bicycles For Humanity on Sunday.

The organisation collects secondhand bicycles ships them to communities in Namibia, Kenya and Cambodia, to provide transport to education and health care.
Bicycles For Humanity secretary Gary Chan said secondhand bikes and some cash had been donated on the day, but the event’s success was in raising more awareness for the charity.
“Recycling and repurposing bicycles is a conversation that can be advanced, but it’s great to get the word out about an organisation like Bicycles For Humanity,” he said. “Our members here, including physiotherapist Jamie Chan, are engaging with schools and community organisations to create a future in this city.”
He said the road was “pristine”, and there was already talk of next year.
“It’s interesting, while the hill represented a challenged for the human-powered vehicles, it was said it could be a bit of an annual thing, as there’s no dedicated circuit in Ballarat,” Mr Chan said
