Later on the same night, another police car was struck south of Geelong in an incident police suspect may be related to the first collision.
Both incidents have led to arrest and charges being laid.
The episode began on Sunday afternoon at 5pm when police attempted to intercept an allegedly stolen vehicle at a fast food restaurant on Gisborne Road in Bacchus Marsh when the car allegedly struck a police car.
A man and a woman, both passengers in the vehicle, were arrested at the scene, while one managed to flee the scene on foot.
Early on Monday morning a white Toyota Utility with stolen plates was engaged by police at Mount Duneed south of Geelong observed on the Surf Coast Highway
At about 1.25am police activated their lights and sirens but the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the vehicle was blocked into a dead end on Hopwood Place and it allegedly rammed a divisional van.
The male driver was arrested and transported to hospital for observation under police guard.
Police are investigating whether the man was involved in the Bacchus Marsh incident.
No police members were injured.
A 19-year-old Bacchus Marsh woman has been remanded to appear at the Ballarat Magistrate’s Court this morning charged with theft of motor car.
A 23-year-old Bacchus Marsh man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and bailed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
