The Department of Justice and Regulation has confirmed it plans to create a new Justice Service Centre in Ballarat to help cope with the expansion of employees in the region.

On Monday The Courier revealed City of Ballarat had received a planning application for a $5 million, five-storey office building on the former Plaster Fun House site, located at 11 Grenville Street North.
The building is anticipated to hold 110 employees in a range of roles including Community Correctional Services; Sheriff’s officers; the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria; Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria; Consumer Affairs; Youth Justice, and a range of Department of Justice and Regulation corporate business units, should the new site be given council’s green light.
The department’s Grampians headquarters is currently located on Mair Street.
iPlanning Services director James Iles said he expected construction on the site to begin “almost immediately” should a permit be granted.
