THE gymnasium floor at Ballarat High School has become the centre of attention after it caved in last week.A special show was put on by Triple J last Wednesday after six of the school's students won the Triple J Unearthed Best High School competition.Their band, Howl, is made up of year 12 students Jonathon Crawford, Daniel Marie, Lachlan Morrish, Michael Belsar, Galen Strachan and Tim Street, and as part of their big win got to perform at their school with Sydney band Art Vs Science.A stage was erected in the school gym and students danced at the front of the stage during the event. It was when the students walked back to classes after the lunchtime gig teachers realised the floor had sagged."Right now there's a gaping hole in it," principal Peter Dredge said."The stumps were driven into the ground where the mosh pit was so we've had to get workers in to jack it up and reinforce and pin the stumps so it doesn't occur again."Mr Dredge is not too concerned about the damage, saying the school will foot the bill."We haven't got the bill yet, but it's not going to be extraordinary," he said."I think we got the best end of the deal."Triple J came here and brought their entourage, and the school got a lot out of it."It was an opportunity to celebrate the boys' win."I've never heard of a floor getting so much attention."It is expected the floor will be repaired early this week.
