The girls’ home and away season came to a conclusion at the weekend, but Saturday’s victory made it five in a row for the Rebels.
Coach Rhys Cahir said it was a great performance in difficult conditions, paying credit to yet another hard-working performance.
“It was a really good win for the girls...they adapted really well and worked really hard,” Cahir said.
“The girls used the footy really well.
“They competed all day and kept winning the one-on-one contests and getting the ball forward.”
The Rebels end the year with six wins and three losses, taking them to fifth on the ladder.
Cahir said the improvement over the course of the season had been huge – which is reflected in the way the results have panned out.
Cahir said it was disappointing the season had to come to a close given his group had hit peak form, but the season had been full of positives for the developing group.
“It’s disappointing that it came to an end, but we just talked about their improvement and how far they’ve come.”
Key position players Maggie and Rene Caris were influential, Denver Henson and Lauren Butler also had a big say in the result.
Many of the girls will return to play with their local clubs while others will train with VFL Women’s teams.
The Rebels also have seven player in the Vic Country squad that will compete at the National Championships beginning in June.
