He replaces Sebastopol’s Matt Austin, who has withdrawn with the effects of concussion.
Kennedy’s inclusion leaves Melton South as the only club without a representative in the 23-strong team.
While as of Wednesday this was only change to the BFL side announced on Monday, it might not be the last.
BFL head coach Shaun O’Loughlin was still waiting for confirmation of the availability of VFL-listed players Nathan Horbury (Geelong), Jake McQueen (Essendon) and Jordan Johnston (Northern Blues).
O’Loughlin and his coaching panel have players on standby should any other changes be forced on them.
O’Loughlin said there was plenty of enthusiasm in what was an experienced line-up as it prepared to step out on the MCG as a curtain-raiser to the Essendon and Geelong AFL fixture.
He said the players were well aware of what was required and he was confident they would come together well as an on-field unit.
O’Loughlin rejected a suggestion the BFL might lack ground speed.
He said they had put together a team with plenty of football smarts with the ability to know where to be and real sense of what to do.
Having had two light training sessions this week, the team will round out its preparation at the City Oval on Thursday night.
O’Loughlin said with the ground having similar dimensions to the MCG, it was ideal for fine tuning match-day planning.
