The truck has detection equipment to monitor a variety of chemicals, oxygen levels, explosive limits, carbon monoxide levels and radioactive materials and will be able to service all of western Victoria.

Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford said it would give the brigade equipment to ensure community protection during incidents such as gas leaks and chemical spills.

The brigade was established in December and is currently operating out of a temporary home in Delacombe. It is expected to move to its new home in Lucas in November.

“The HAZMAT vehicle is a significant boost to the firefighting capacity of the Lucas Fire Brigade,” Ms Pulford said.
