She took off on Wednesday night around 6.30pm, and was returned to the club only 12 hours later by an ex-greyhound trainer, who realised the dog was in racing condition. 

Sultana’s trainer George Dailly said the young greyhound managed to slip out of her collar, and then became spooked.

“We were just getting out of the car, and she jumped back and slipped out of her collar. Then something frightened her and she took off,” Mr Dailly said.

“We were a bit worried about her.

“She’s just young and has only raced a couple of times. We’re hoping she’ll be good.”

It follows the disappearance and return of Mavis, a black greyhound from Sebastopol, who was taken from her backyard overnight on May 9.
