The 22-year-old from Ballarat was selected as one of about 20 drivers from around the country to participate in the program, which was based at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
During a week of classes, Ferguson said she learnt plenty about the sport, including foreign aspects such as nutrition and psychology.
“It has definitely changed the way I approach every race meeting now,” Ferguson, who runs a hair salon in Ballarat, said.
Following in the footsteps of her father Les, Ferguson has been speedway racing since she was 11 and will get behind the wheel this Saturday for the annual Street Stock Queen of the Mount race, which she won in 2016.
She will compete against mother Karen, with her younger sister Kasey also in action in another race on the program at Buninyong’s Redline Raceway.
