Restaurants and cafes in Ballarat and surrounds are putting signature pies on their menu as part of a new celebration of the city’s hospitality offerings. There are 20 pies on offer for the Plate Up Ballarat pie competition.
Tiarni Beasley and Sam Palanca tasted The Western Hotel’s slow cooked Waubra lamb pie with creamy mashed local potatoes and mushy peas.
Ms Beasley said Plate Up Ballarat was a fantastic opportunity to show off Ballarat’s food scene, with the pie competition adding an element of difference.
“I love trying different food and it is a bit special when someone has put extra effort into it too. I have decided pie day is Friday while this competition is on.”
You can vote for your favourite pie through both The Courier and Plate Up Ballarat’s online competition.
The Plate Up Ballarat pie competition winner will be announced at the Western Bulldogs versus Port Adelaide match on Sunday July 29. Diners can vote for their favourite pie on the Plate Up Ballarat website until July 23.
The Courier has created an interactive map of pies and their locations. You can vote and review your favourite pies on The Courier website for the chance to win great prizes, beginning May 1.
