Michael Trigger kicked the opening goal and Ballarat’s only scare came immediately after. Brunswick got a shot on goal seconds after the restart, earning a corner kick which saw Ballarat concede a penalty via a handball. Goalkeeper Aaron Romein saved the goal and Ballarat did not look back from on, running away comfortable winners.
The big victory was Ballarat’s fourth of the season and clearly its best.
“It was our most complete performance of the year,” Gnjidic said.
“I think both with and without the ball we took advantage of the opportunities when they came. We spoke during the week about being more clinical...we’ve lacked that bit of hunger and aggression in the attacking third, but we had that last night – we had it in spades.
“It shows what this group is capable of, hopefully they keep believing and keep doing the things that are serving them well.”
Dom Swinton and Pat Karras scored two each, along with Trigger’s goal.
Ballarat will have to remain at that level if it is to build on this form.
It will travel to Frank Holohan Soccer Complex for a cross conference clash with Dandenong City next week. Dandenong sits in the top three of the eastern conference and will provide a stern test.
