Ballarat North United has celebrated an upset 3-1 victory over the second-placed Warrnambool Rangers in Ballarat and District Soccer Association division one competition on Sunday.

Oliver Richardson, Alexander Worthington and Sunny Yeu all contributed to the scoreboard for North United, while Clinton Demartin was the Rangers’ sole scorer.
The victory has helped North United climb from the bottom of the ladder into fifth position, helped by losses to Victoria Park and Forest Rangers.
Buninyong had a strong start against Victoria Park controlling the first half with goals to Edwin North and Nathan Collins.
But the halftime lead of 0-2 remained unchanged for the remainder of the game.
Victoria Park came out firing in the second half but could not find the back of the net, while Buninyong suffered injuries but their substitutes played their roles.
Meanwhile, in women’s division one competition, Ballarat defeated rivals Ballarat North United by three goals at Morshead Park.
Ballarat scored quickly with Lily Fraser finding the back of the net at the 13 minute mark and the team held onto the advantage into the half time break.
Tayte Fraser scored another Ballarat goal at the 75 minute mark, while North United scored an own goal at the 78 minute mark to extend its opponent’s lead to 0-3.
Warrnambool Rangers continued their impressive winning streak with their seventh victory coming over fifth-placed Forest Rangers at Wendouree West.
Ranger Chloe Paredes scored half of Warrnambool’s score to boost her total to seven goals from seven games played.
