The 11.16pm train from Southern Cross to Wendouree and the 14.12 Wendouree to Southern Cross train did not run because the drivers could not complete radio communication tests.
Telstra mobile customers nation-wide were affected by the outage, impacting the 3G and 4G network. By 10am on Monday, the Aussie Outages’ live outage map showed more than 10,000 incidences of outages across the country.
A V/Line spokesperson apologised to Ballarat line customers “affected by train cancellations and delays caused by an intermittent Telstra outage” on Monday.
“Two services were cancelled due to the fault affecting radio communication between the driver and train control,” the spokesperson said.
The outage came on a bad day for V/Line services, with a number of afternoon and early evening Ballarat trains facing delays near Melton due to congestion.
