Bacchus Marsh confirmed it status as a leading premiership contender with a 17-point win over a courageous East Point in the Ballarat Football League on saturday.
And in doing so the Cobras finally ended its Eastern Oval hoodoo.
Bacchus Marsh had not beaten East Point at the ground since the early 2000s.
While they led most of the day, the Cobras looked like again lowering their colours to the Kangaroos midway through the last term.
East Point came from 24 points down at three quarter time to draw level with four unanswered goals in nine minutes.
The Roos managed to get out to a five-point lead, but Bacchus Marsh ultimately had a little too much resolve and finished over the top of the home combination.
While the previously unbeaten East Point missed out on the premiership points, it lost few admirers in sounding a message to the competition that it is a team to be reckoned with this year.
Werribee VFL-listed and former Bacchus Marsh junior Harrison King made an outstanding debut for the Cobras.
In his first game since hip surgery in the off-season, King gave a powerhouse performance.
The speedy Aaron Nester was East Point's best.
First-year youngster Jacob Brown kicked five goals for the Roos, while Aaron Willitts matched that effort for Bacchus Marsh
BRENDAN Fevola was a notable absentee from Mars Stadium as the winless Melton South lost to North Ballarat by 49 points.
Fevola was named in the Melkton South reserves and also as an emergency for the seniors, but withdrew all together on Saturday morning.
He is yet to play this season.
He missed the opening two games owing to suspension and expressed concern about his recovery from Achilles tendon surgery in the off-season in missing the past two fixtures.
Will Young continued on his goalkicking way for North with another six majors.
SEBASTOPOL had it first win of the season - defeating Lake Wendouree by 56 points at CE Brown Reserve.
The Burras' four recruits from the North Ballarat Roosters' VFL list - Tony Lockyer, James Keeble (five goals), Nick Hausler and Lachie Cassidy - led the way.
MELTON cruised home against Ballarat, which had a goalless first half, by 62 points.
DARLEY had few problems overrunning Redan by 57 points.

BULLDOGS BREAK THROUGH FOR MAIDEN WIN
Daylesford has finally won its first game of 2018.
The Bulldogs' maiden triumph under new senior coach Zac Tisdale arrived when the side beat Carngham-Linton by eight points on Saturday.
Daylesford led the clash at Linton by 23 points at the final change, but only managed to sneak away with a 11.11 (77) to 10.9 (69) success.
Max Risstrom and Emlyn Nettleton were named the best players for the Bulldogs, while Ross Waters booted five goals and Tim Clarke was a standout performer for the Saints.
Daylesford's triumph leaves Ballan and Clunes as the two winless sides in the Central Highlands Football League after seven rounds.
The Blues were handed a hefty defeat by Waubra on Saturday, while the Magpies were no match for Newlyn.
In Creswick on Saturday, Bungaree managed to hold on for a hard-fought two-point win against the gutsy Wickers.
It took some tough defending from the Demons in the last quarter to beat the home side, which had plenty of forward 50m entries, but couldn’t find the lead.
Beaufort remains percentage clear at the top of the ladder after kicking clear of Springbank late to record a 69-point win in Wallace.
Jack Duke booted four goals, while the often unheralded Mitch Jenkins was rated the Crows' best player.
Other winners on Saturday were Hepburn, Buninyong and Gordon.
